Initio

Innovations

Two lab-on-a-chip devices that are available for 3D cell culture:

  • IC-chip (invasion chemotaxis)
  • DDI-chip (distance dependent interactions; cell to cell communication)

We want to partner with companies that can benefit from our existing products and develop new ones together for their drug discovery process.

Partnering Objectives

Initio seeks to find partners that are interested in:

  1. Developing drugs to fight cancer and who can benefit from testing their drugs on cells cultured in our lab-on-a-chip test devices or to test their cell line in our lab-on-a-chip
  2. Growing cells in 3D culture in a cost-effective manner and in a small volume and to measure any interactions between molecules and cells

We want to be involved in the preclinical stage of the drug discovery process where we can help select better candidates for animal testing and clinical trials.

Company Story

Initio was founded in 2016 on the back of a successfully completed Marie Curie project in addition to national research projects worth €2M in total, with a mission to develop organ and disease models using microfluidics technology. We develop patented/ patent pending multi-functional lab-on-a-chip devices that differ in several respects from the current ones on the market. Our products enable different types of assays to be performed with one type of device and can perform assays no other product on the market can. Since we produce lab-on-a-chip devices in-house we can also provide tailor made product solutions to potential partners.

Due to technological limitations classical assays are (i) end-point assays, (ii) only give population average data, and (iii) do not support 3D spatially controlled multi-cellular culture.

Our products can (i’) provide real time data, (ii’) provide single cell resolution, and (iii’) mimic the in vivo microenvironment comprised of multiple cell types in a 3D context. Our vision is to partner with leading pharma companies to accelerate their drug discovery process, and in so doing help improve the quality of life of patients worldwide.
