WeWalk

Innovations

WeWALK is a revolutionary smart cane developed for the visually impaired. WeWALK attaches to the traditional white cane, transforming it into an innovative smart cane. This technology increases visually impaired people’s independence and promotes full-participation in society via three of its features.

  • Detection of obstacles: WeWALK detects obstacles above chest level with an ultrasonic sensor and vibrates when these objects are near.
  • Pairing with a phone: When paired with the WeWALK mobile application via Bluetooth, the user can use applications with WeWALK’s touchpad, without holding his or her phone. For example, the user can request rides and get navigation on the WeWALK device.
  • Evolving with new integrations: WeWALK is currently integrated with Call Management and Google Maps. In 2019, WeWALK will be integrated with Voice Assistant, Uber and Lyft. These new integration features are installed through periodic software updates.

Partnering Objectives

WeWalk aims to partner with organisations that can broaden their access to visually impaired people. The visually impaired are often within the lower income brackets and hence aiding devices are often outside their financial reach. By working with partner companies and organisations they can develop improved business processes that will be mutually beneficial in addressing key societal and socio-economic challenges in Turkey and the UK.

Municipalities: The company would like to integrate WeWALKs with municipalities’ infrastructure systems such as traffic lights and transportation. Integrating WeWALK with these systems makes every place more accessible for visually disabled people.

Universities: WeWALK will provide an indoor navigation system in the future, and they have demonstrated PoC at Ozyegin University in Turkey. They would now like to co-develop indoor navigation systems with UK universities.

Insurance Companies and the UK NHS: Co-develop a new business model that can allow WeWALK white canes to reach more end-users.
